We are now two months in, and things are really starting to take shape. The whole of the external structure is complete and the builders have just knocked through into the main house upstairs.
The picture below shows where the door to the new bedroom will be.
We are exposed to the elements at the moment – it is freezing – and now may be the time to think about moving to the in-laws for a few weeks as it’s likely that the bathroom is being ripped out next!
In terms of the build itself, we have had to make a few slight adjustments to our initial plans. The main ones are:
- In the bathroom, the builders are unable to remove part of the wall from the original house so we now have a pillar in the room. We have decided to use this to create a bathing area and then a separate shower area. It has given us quite a good design idea so it isn’t too much of an issue. Nb The bath in the picture is not the new one – it is definitely going!
- We are going to have to move the main bedroom door along the corridor and install the door to the new ensuite in this new mini doorway. Originally it was going to be by a fireplace in the bedroom, but due to our house being so old it was advised that this was a better option. Again, not a huge issue and the end result will still be the same.
As I type, the ceiling in the kitchen is coming down and it is starting to get a bit messy now.
The next few weeks are going to be the most disruptive, but the builders have been great and are keeping to their original timescale.
Let’s hope for some warmer nights though!
